Encuentro beach which famous for its surf break, lies halfway between the towns of Sosua and Cabarete and is renowned for the Master of the Ocean event which takes place each February. The competition combines the disciplines of kitesurfing, windsurfing, paddle-boarding and surfing over three days in a quest to find the ultimate waterman and water woman. Incidentally those of you that might be interested in taking up any of the above mentioned water sport activities will find a good selection of schools and instructors readily available within the area.
